Lipson Students Experience Rugby at the Highest

Level

On Wednesday 20th October students and staff at Lipson Co-operative Academy travelled to The University of Bath Sports Training Village, as part of an academy project to promote participation in lifelong rugby.

The Lipson contingent was lucky enough to meet some of Europe’s leading sports scientists and use some of the most up to date sports science technology that supports some of our most successful athletes. Students were put through their paces and tested against the performance measures of professional rugby players, and, impressively, a number of students matched those levels.

In addition, Lipson has signed up to a research project that studies the level of injury sustained during competitive sports with a focus on rugby. This research project works in conjunction with the RFU and the CBRE All Schools Injury Surveillance and Prevention.

PE Teacher and Head of Guild Struan Mitchell commented, ‘As the number of young players involved in rugby grows, it is important for us to understand and manage the injury risks involved, so this visit allowed each student to engage in practical sports science and sports performance workshops led by our expert scientists and practitioners. It was a really enjoyable and enriching day.’
